We are creating economic value for New Zealand’s plant-based industries by developing new and innovative bioprotection tools and technologies.
New Zealand is dependent on agriculture for prosperity; more than 70% of the country’s export earnings come from agriculture, horticulture and forestry. All of these sectors are at risk from pest, weeds and pathogens and these threats are exacerbated by climate and land-use changes, biosecurity incursions and withdrawal of chemical pesticides.
We are working closely with commercial partners, often through our partner organisations, to apply our fundamental research to solve dynamic pest, weed and pathogens problems in New Zealand and overseas.
Our aim is the help deliver enhanced bioprotection, improved biosecurity and better biological controls for New Zealand. We bring together multi-disciplinary teams of experienced research scientists, from national and international institutions, and high-performing graduates to facilitate innovation.
