Gnotobiotic culture of Brassica gall culture and Plasmodiophora

This project aims to gain an increased understanding of the Plasmodiophora-plant interaction and the initiation of detailed studies of Plasmodiophora genes.

We hypothesise that P. brassica (Pb) spreads through the host and causes profound cell modification via secreted proteins. We aim to demonstrate the function of genes in this process with the following investigations:

  • identify Pb ‘secretome' gene sequences and demonstrate function
  • use in vitro gnotobiotic culture for lifecycle investigations.

This project is funded by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC).
