Academic and Professional Background

  • Background:

    Doctoral candidate

  • Research:

Project: Can viruses be used as biocontrol agents for Botrytis cinerea?

  • Publications:
    1. Investigations on influencing plant-associated bacteria in tissue cultures of black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.);2008
    2. Occurrence of culturable bacteria living in micropropagated black locust cultures (Robinia pseudoacacia L.); 2008
    3. Mycoviruses of filamentous fungi and their relevance to plant pathology; 2009
  • Personal Resume:

Originally from Germany, Barbara moved to Auckland in 2006 to broaden her knowledge about microbe-microbe-interactions related to plant pathology.

She has developed fundamental tools and techniques that enable her to study the relationship between the fungi and mycoviruses at a molecular and cellular level.

The main aim of her PhD is to investigate the mycoviral impact of BVX and BVF on the plant pathogen B. cinerea. The results will contribute to a better understanding of virus-fungal interactions.

Before arriving in New Zealand, Barbara completed a Masters (german Dipl.-Ing.) in Biotechnology at the Technical University of Berlin, Germany.
