Academic and Professional Background
- Background:
Peter has worked as an entomologist for MAF Biosecurity for 19 years, and over that time has been involved in the diagnoses and the interpretation of the significance of invertebrates new to New Zealand, new host associations and new pest distributions. Peter has been heavily involved in the development and delivery of the arbovirus vector, honey bee pest and fruit fly surveillance systems in New Zealand, and was a key technical provider during emergency responses such as the to Mediterranean fruit fly and Asian tiger mosquito campaigns. Peter is currently leading in a collaborative research programme assessing the value of isotope and trace element analyses for determining the origin of high impact exotic insect pests that threaten New Zealand’s biosecurity.
