Professor Tony Conner is the Centre's Theme Leader for Plant Bio-protection Systems Biology, a role that involves guiding and facilitating research carried out within the theme.

Tony's research activities focus on:

  • integration of biotechnology and genomics into breeding programmes of arable and vegetable crops
  • genetic manipulation of plant cells, especially potatoes, for resistance and quality traits
  • design and development of gene transfer vectors
  • genetic recombination in plants
  • environmental and food biosafety of genetically-improved crops.
