The Centre has one of the strongest bioprotection postgraduate training groups in the Southern Hemisphere. Currently, more than 50 postgraduate students are studying within the Centre.
Centre students are usually enrolled at Lincoln University, Massey University or The University of Auckland. Many work alongside our partner institutions, other national and international research organisations, or commercial partners, to gain experience relevant to New Zealand’s primary industry sectors. All of our students are mentored by small, multi-disciplinary teams of research scientists.
Training tomorrow’s bioprotection scientists
We attract postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows from New Zealand and overseas, and support them with mentoring, training and professional development.
The Centre has a formalised Graduate School for training of these researchers. Topics include biometrics, science writing and journal submission, presentation skills, and preparation of grant applications, presented as creditable instruction courses.
We also offer summer scholarships for students enrolled for a Bachelor's degree at a New Zealand University.
