I am a Soil Microbial Ecologist. My research incorporates both traditional laboratory based and modern molecular methods to study the specific nature of soil microbial communities across environments. I am very passionate about the protection of scarce native forests and much of my previous and current research is focused on the studying the health and resilience of New Zealand kauri (Agathis australis). A significant research highlight of mine occurred during my PhD, where I discovered several microbial isolates which show inhibition towards Phytophthora agathidicida, the causal agent of kauri dieback disease. My goal for future research is to stay true to my passions, and to continue growing and developing as a well-rounded researcher.
