Features within landscapes are critical to the spread of pathogen, pest and weed incursions, but they are not well understood. This pou examines factors that shape the vulnerability, resistance, and resilience of landscapes to incursions.
It brings together landscape ecology, social systems, and environmental science to better understand what enables ecosystems to adapt and thrive. Through this work, Pou Nuku-a-Rangi supports more informed and targeted strategies for protecting and restoring Aotearoa’s environments.
Project 5
Improving how we detect, monitor, and understand microbial threats across dynamic landscapes.
Project 6
Understanding how land use and cover crops influence deep soil carbon and climate resilience.
Project 7
Mapping the landscape drivers of weed spread to improve early detection and response strategies
Project 3.1
Exploring how soils can be managed to promote resilience, disease resistance, and productivity under climate pressure.
Project 3.2
Exploring how mānuka and kānuka plantings can support native regeneration while resisting woody weed invasion.
Project 3.3
Examining the social and governance influences that support resilient ecosystems and encourage pro-environmental behaviours in Aotearoa.
