What we're exploring

Bioprotection responses are becoming increasingly complex. They involve many people and agencies, as well as fast-changing tools and technologies. Current approaches are often reactive, fragmented, and narrowly focused on individual species or specific locations, with responsibilities divided across institutions and property boundaries.

This project explores how bioprotection is imagined and put into practice in Aotearoa. It aims to better connect what already exists and inspire new ways of working that reflect today’s challenges. By analysing the relationships, systems, and processes behind current and emerging responses, the project seeks to improve how we care for the environment in a world of uncertainty and complexity. It uses a mixed methods approach, drawing on research from across the environmental social sciences.
